About KALAAH

My Journey

My journey in Bharatanatyam began at the age of seven in Chennai under the guidance of Guru Smt. Sankari Balasubramaniam. From a young age, I developed a deep passion for this classical art form, dedicating myself to rigorous training and nurturing a lifelong love for dance. After moving to Bangalore, I had the privilege of being mentored for a brief period by Smt. Rukmini Srinivasan In 1993, I joined the esteemed tutelage of Naatyacharya Guru Sri Kiran Subramanyam and Smt. Sandhya Kiran, whose exceptional guidance and mentorship played a transformative role in my artistic development. Under their direction, I completed my Arangetram in the year 2000.

Performance & Recognition

Over the years, I have been fortunate to perform at several prestigious dance festivals across India, including Perur Natyanjali and the Spirit of Unity Concert. I have also been recognised as a Doordarshan artist, providing me with opportunities to share my passion for Bharatanatyam with wider audiences.

Teaching Philosophy

Alongside my performance career, teaching has always been close to my heart. I began assisting my gurus at Rasika Academy of Performing Arts and was entrusted with the responsibility of running Padmavati Kalamatan in Bangalore at the age of just seventeen. Having started teaching at a young age, I developed a strong interest in rhythm and percussion, leading me to learn and practise Nattuvangam from an early stage in my training. In 2014, I founded Kalaah, with a vision of providing high-quality Bharatanatyam training while preserving the authenticity, discipline, and artistic excellence of the tradition. Today, Kalaah has grown into a respected dance school in Berkshire, renowned for its commitment to quality, technical excellence, and high performance standards. Through Kalaah, I strive to inspire the next generation of dancers, helping them develop not only strong technique but also a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage and expressive beauty of Bharatanatyam.
